Metamorphic Creep

This piece draws on geological processes, Jungian psychology and the Nigredo (the initial alchemical stage which was believed to lead to enlightenment and the philosopher’s stone). The formal interplay of light and dark are woven into the conceptual core of the project to highlight themes of transformation and regeneration. This piece puts forward the notion of darkness to be a way to reach the light rather than an opposing force.

The piece is constructed from a variety of coloured and pearlised papers. Each piece is folded into an origami unit and then woven together into 3, 4, 5 and 6 sided geometric units that are arranged in a non-regular pattern.
