Echo

Shot while on a year long artist's residency at HEIMA in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.

'Echo was filmed at Tvisongur, a site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne and is located on a mountainside above the town of Seydisfjordur.

The work is built of concrete and consists of five interconnected domes of different sizes. The heights of the domes are between 2 and 4 meters and they cover an area of about 30 square meters. Each dome has its own resonance that corresponds to a tone in the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony, and works as a natural amplifier to that tone.

'Echo' was exhibited in the town, using a series of glass panels and mirrors to deconstruct and reconstruct the imagery, echoing the complex structure of harmony highlighted in the original site specific work.

During my residency I was exploring notions of our perception of reality, the nature of light, changing states of matter, the underlying structure of the landscape and our connection to the cosmos. I frequently deconstruct and reconstruct the environment, attempting to shift the view of the observer.

This video explores the concept of duality.
